About Our Home Inspection Company
Jeff Nathan formed his initial home inspection company in 1988. Since then he has looked at over 18,000 structures, walked probably 14,000 roofs, looked at maybe 20,000 furnaces, air conditoners, hot water heaters and electrical panels.
We inspect properties from one bedroom condominiums to 20,000 square foot mansions, multi-family structures up to twelve unit apartment buildings and commercial properties up to 25,000 square feet. We comply with the standards of practice of the Illinois home inspector licensing act and the American Society of Home Inspectors Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics for residential properties and ASTM standards for commercial properties.
We provide our clients with a computer generated, narrative style report which includes embedded photos of many of the defects found for clarity. Our home inspection report is completed and provided to you the same day as the inspection. The inspection report clearly states all safety defects and major faults in the home, including recommendations for maintenance and comments as appropriate. The standards of practice specify what is to be inspected, and we comply with those standards. Briefly, these include inspection of the following areas: on the exterior; siding, windows, doors, roof and roof covering and roof drainage systems, decks, patios, balconies, driveway and walk way surfaces, porches and garages. We examine the lot to determine grade to ensure storm water drainage is away from the structure. On the interior, we examine visible and accessible structural elements such as the basement and crawl spaces, foundation, walls, floors and ceilings. We inspect the heating and cooling systems, plumbing and fixtures and water heating appliance, the electric system and electric panel, kitchen and laundry and appliances. We finish up inspecting all interior rooms checking a representative sample of the windows, doors, switches and receptacles, and finally inspect the attic space including insulation, ventilation and moisture barriers. We report on all items inspected, and if not inspected, specify why not.
For many years our inspectors have provided honest, objective, and thorough inspections. From the first contact with us through the inspection, report delivery and explanation of your report, you will experience the ultimate in professionalism.
