Energy Efficiency
Submitted by jeffnathan on January 6, 2015 - 3:13pmSoooo, it's just a bit cold outside. And your energy bills for heating are starting to creep or leap up. There are things you can do to help decrease your energy usage (particularly gas in our climate) that are relatively easy and could end up saving you some big bucks. None of these are particularly sexy and none of them involve spending big bucks but they all help in their small way to help you put some extra dollars in your pocket.
So here, in no particular order, are a few tips.

Shoveling
Submitted by jeffnathan on January 9, 2013 - 9:17amI recently came across this article in Farmers Almanac and thought it would be helpful. Not much snow this year but still, it pays to be careful.
Every year, tens of thousands of people end up in emergency rooms due to shoveling injuries. Heart attacks and back or joint injuries are the most common complaints. Here are some tips to help keep you safe:
• If you are generally inactive or have a history of heart trouble, talk to your doctor before shoveling snow.

Fogged Thermopane Windows
Submitted by jeffnathan on March 3, 2012 - 12:26pmGenerally, in a home with thermopane windows, we will come across one or two that have broken seals. Fogging and/or moisture is observed between the panes of glass. Depending on the condition of the rest of the window frame a decision has to be made to decide if the window glass should be replaced or the whole unit (trim, sill, casing etc.) should be pulled out and a new window system installed.
